Angelite – Gemzworld Crystals Encyclopedia

Angelite – This is our research and findings on this magical mineral.

Origin – the place or situation from which something comes, the beginning of something’s existence, the point from which it starts, the thing from which it is ultimately derived.

Angelite is a Sulfates mineral of soft blue Anhydrite. Sulfides have a sulfur atom surrounded by four oxygen atoms that form a square. Aside from Gypsum and Baryte, which are the main Sulfide types, the rest are increasingly rare, including Anhydrite.

When Gypsum loses water, it turns into Anhydrite, usually found in salt deposits formed in blocks, of course, crystalline. Anhydrite is normally found as a colourless brown crystal. The pale blue version is rarer and is known as Angelite.

All crystals belong to a different group according to the basis of the relationships of their axes. There are 7 systems and 32 classes of symmetry. Angelite crystals belong to the Orthohombic system.

History – the past considered whole, the whole series of past events connected with someone or something, a continuous typically chronological record of importance.

The known history of Anhydrite is recent in times as the name was given by A.G. Werner in 1804 due to the absence of water of crystallization compared to its presence in Gypsum.

Angelite was first documented during the globally synchronised meditation event named the Harmonic Conversion in 1987.

Specification – the act of describing or identifying something precisely, a detailed description of the design and materials used to make something.

Angelite is only enhanced through cutting, tumbling and polishing. It is of a soft blue | white in colour, and the true versions are only believed to be found in Peru, encapsulating a deeper blue colour.

Varieties – a number or range of things of the same general class that are different or distinct in character or quality.

Angelite is formed from Sulfates, of which there are around 200 types, including Gypsum and Baryte.

A rare variety is Anhydrite, of which the pale blue version is known as Angelite.

Esoteric Attributes – a quality or feature as characteristic of or possed by something.

Crystals, by their very nature, can receive and focus energy in different ways. Their molecular structure enables them to be used to amplify and convert energy. Hence, crystals have been used for centuries to aid healing and transmute energy both in the metaphysical and physical world.

Because each crystal family has different formational backgrounds, each also has different vibrational frequencies that can be harnessed and used for specific purposes. Each, therefore, has specific qualities that can help a person heal on many different levels of their being.

The following is a list of healing attributes associated with Angelite crystals.

Mental: Angelite helps to end brooding and give calmness to thought whilst dissipating obsessions. It is helpful in group communication and aids lucidity in dream interpretation.

Emotional: Angelite is an aid to overcoming insecurity, and it helps to withstand the psychic strain. It strengthens the ability to overcome confusion and pain when caused by cruelty.

Physical: Angelite aids in the stimulation of kidney function and water balance. It assists in the reduction of oedema.

Pyrite is a mineral that is also known as ‘Fools Gold’. It is a common sulfide mineral incorporating iron that is formed along with other oxides and sulfides in quartz veins, metamorphic rock and sedimentary rock settlements. It can also be found as a replacement mineral in fossils and in coal beds.

Pyrite usually forms as a cubic shaped crystal and sometimes fuses closely to appear in a framboid shape. This shape is a distinguishing factor between Pyrite and Gold as Pyrite is smilar in colour however the shape differs in that gold has an irregular shape and Pyrite has a cubic formation. This is the reason for the term ‘Fools Gold’.

All crystals belong to a different group according to the basis of the relationships of their axes. There are 7 systems and 32 classes of symmetry. Pyrite cubic crystals belong to the Cubic system.

This sparky mineral’s name derived from the Greek word ‘Pyr’ meaning fire as it was commonly used for creating sparks when struck with iron. It has been dated back to uses in prehistoric times by archeologists.

The Roman documenter and philosopher, Pliny the Elder, refers to Pyrite as a group of stones that emit sparks when struck. Specifically one which was coloured brass, which is deemed to be the Pyrite we refer to now.

The Atzecs and Mayans also used Pyrite to craft exquisitely produced mirrors using tiny pieces of pyrite melded closely together. Many of these did not last due to the iron oxidisation within. They were situated in royal and noble tombs and temples and were said to represent noble or royal heritage.

In the 20th Century, Pyrite was used in radio receivers and is also associated with low cost photovoltaic solar panels. It was also popular in the making of marcasite jewelery.

Selenite refers to the crystalline varieties of gypsum that can also include gypsum flower, desert rose and satin spar.

They are formulated from calcium sulfate dihydrate which means that there are two molecules of water within. Selenite can be sourced from the rock or matrix or can also be found typically in clay beds in free form structure. They may be found with trace inclusions and fossils contained within.

Gypsum was known in old english as spaerstan meaning spear stone, it is also thought to have derived from the Greek word , gypsos, meaning plaster or chalk. It was used to form plaster of paris due to its ability to harden when put through a hydrated/dehydrated process.

The name Selenite is thought to have derived from either the Greek word Lithos, the middle English term, selinete or the Latin term selenites which means stone of the moon or moonstone.

In ancient times the belief was that some of the crystals that formed transparently were waxed and connected by the moon. As Selenite is the variety of Gypsum that forms in transparent crystalline masses, it has been reffered to by this name since the 15th Century.

Origin

Falcon’s eye is a blue black to blue green opaque gemstone variety of fibrous quartz. All Tiger Eye is chatoyant which derives from the French language for “cat’s eye”. In the middle ages, the Falcons Eye was worn for protection as an amulet against witchcraft, demons and the evil eye.

Some stones with a higher oxidized iron are more bluish brown colour. It is typically multi-coloured with golden stripes or wavy patterns. It is an opaque fibrous aggregate, variety of microcrystalline quartz. It displays an iridescence that enhances its silky luster. It is a pseudo morph of quartz meaning it changed from one mineral to another over time. Falcon’s eye was once crocidolite and changed to quartz. Crocidolite is a fibrous blue mineral; from the riebeckite family of amphibole silicates. It has a distinct composition, colour and chatoyancy with a silicon dioxide composition. It has a good hardness and durability. It has lower iron content than Tigers Eye.It is always cut to maximise its chatoyancy and associated closely with Tigers Eye and Pietersite.

It is quite rare and therefore not seen in much jewellery only interesting pendants or beaded necklaces. It is often carved for ornamental purposes. Its colour makes it a popular gemstone for men’s jewellery as cuff links or tie racks.

It can be found in many locations around the world like Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, India, Kora, Burma, Namibia, South Africa Spain and the US.

Physical

Jasper is a amalgam of micro quartz with other mineral phases that can include chalcedony. It is an opaque variety of silica that contains impurities which allows for the various colour forms dependant on the sediment or ash.

The common red coloured Jasper is caused bytraces of iron (lll) or hematite inclusions. Patterns can occur when the silica rich sediment or volcanic ash forms through flow and depositional occurance.

All crystals belong to a different group according to the basis of the relationships of their axes. There are 7 systems and 32 classes of symmetry. Agate crystals belong to the Trigonal system.

The term ‘Jasper’ refers to the spotting or speckled patterns on the stone and is used to denote a number of stones that are blessed with these pattern types. The documentation in history of picture jasper is unclear, as a result of this, as it is difficult to establish which Jasper type is being referenced through the ages.

There are some noted stories regarding red jasper. One story is that a segment of Red Jasper was embedded on the hilt of Balmung, the legendary sword of the Norse legend Siegfried. Another details how in 1636 the Gemmarum et Lapidum Historia noted that a woman wearing red jasper was cured from the painful chronic hemmoraging that she was inflicted with.

Red Jasper is commonly found and is used for gemstones and ornamentation.

Malachite is an alkaline copper carbonate that is mainly found together with goethite, calcite and azurite. It is often formed from the weathering of copper ores and is normally connected with limestones that are based with copper deposits.

It also forms in caverns deep underground in large stalagmatic, fibrous or botryoidal masses where the means for chemical precipitation is provided by hydrothermal fluids and water tables.

All crystals belong to a different group according to the basis of the relationships of their axes. There are 7 systems and 32 classes of symmetry. Malachite crystals belong to the Monoclinic system.

Malachite was said to resemble the mallow plants by the Greeks who named the stone for that description. The name is aso derived from the Middle French, melochite, Middle English, melochites and the Latin; molochitis.

The stone has been documented at over 3000 years old by archeological evidence found of the mineral being mined and smelted for copper in the Timna Valley in Israel at that time.

It has since been widely used for pigment, ornamentation and in gemstones.

The green banded stone has an adamtine to vitreous luster that appears silky if formed as fibrous or dull to earthy if massive. It is not a particularly hard mineral and measures 3.5-4 on the Mohs scale rating of hardness.

Up until 1800, malachite was used in green paints as a mineral pigment until it was replaced by a synthetic form. . The noted malachite vase, the Tazza, was a gift from the Tzar Nicholas II and stands in the Linda Hall library, it is one of the largest pieces of malachite in North America.

Mookaite is a formation mix of Jasper and Opalite that is sourced from the Australian, Mooka Creek in the Western Kennedy Ranges. It is a locally named term for a mineral that is geologically classed as a Windalia Radiolarite.

Radiolarite is a siliceous sedimantary rock that is classed as chert like, fine grained and homogeneous. It was always asserted that radiolarite was found in pelagic, deep water conditions yet they have been found to occur in sedimentary shallow limestone conditions. The sinking of the sedimentation is quite rapid and, in that process, dissolution occurs that affects the skelton formation of the mineral which can develop to chalcedony and cryptocrystalline quartz dependant on the temperature at sinking phase.

Mookaite refers to the formational pattern of the type of Radiolarite found in the Western Australian location which contains radiolara, foraminifera and calcareous nanoplankton fossils. It contains vari-coloured opaline which gives it an attractive quality for the crafting of gem stones.

All crystals belong to a different group according to the basis of the relationships of their axes. There are 7 systems and 32 classes of symmetry. Mookaite crystals belong to the Trigonal system.

History – the past considered as a whole, the whole series of past events connected with someone or sometihing, a continuous typically chronological record of importance.

Mookaite is a popular gem stone in Australia. It is said that the area where sourced was once part of an ocean long receded. That ocean left an inland sea, which, when that dried, left millions of organisms of skeletal remains that absorbed iron rich minerals. This formation left this type of stone unique to the area and is around 120 million years old.
