Ametrine

Ametrine – Gemzworld Crystals Encyclopedia

Ametrine – This is the research and findings of the mineral

Origin – the place or situation from which something comes, the beginning of something’s existence, the point from which it starts, the thing from which it is ultimately derived.

Ametrine is a crystal of primary formation which means it was formed from molten magma. This usually happens in cavities in volcanoes where the combination of chemistry and structural arrangements of mineral deposits, atoms and substances pass from gas or liquid into a solid-state or by means of going out of solution by precipitation or evaporation.

Ametrine is a silicate mineral of which the Quartz family is a part. In fact, Ametrine is one of the rarest types of quartz as it combines the beauty of two different crystals in one single crystal. Ametrine is a naturally occurring variety of quartz that contains a mixture of amethyst and citrine. Trace particles of iron can transform clear quartz into the purple of amethyst or the gold hue of citrine, and when colled down at two different rates, the two merge to form ametrine.

Ametrine is mined out of the veins in dolomitic limestone, and the main natural supply is mined in Bolivia. Some synthetic Ametrine is produced in Russia who use industrial production methods to produce ametrine colours. These are produced for the low priced segment of the crystal market.

All crystals belong to a different group according to the basis of the relationships of their axes. There are 7 systems and 32 classes of symmetry. Ametrine crystals belong to the Trigonal system.

History – the past considered whole, the whole series of past events connected with someone or something, a continuous typically chronological record of importance.

Ancient myth tells the story of this interesting and unique crystal stone being introduced to Europe when the conquistadors, Felipe de Urriola y Goitia, received a dowry of a mine in Bolivia on marrying the princess Anahi from the native Ayoreos tribe. He then made gifts of the stone to the Spanish Queen Juana.

Today, most Ametrine is mined from the Eastern Bolivian mine of Anahi, which could be linked to the original Princess dowry of the story. There are also sources in India and Brazil.

Specification – the act of describing or identifying something precisely, a detailed description of the design and materials used to make something.

Ametrine is recognisable by its colours and appears with a lovely translucency. It isn’t easy to artificially produce. Tumbled

Ametrine appears in a fully natural form. It can appear in jewellery, gemstones, crystals and spheres, among others.

Varieties – a number or range of things of the same general class that are different or distinct in character or quality.

Ametrines are the combined beauty of citrine and amethyst. Synthetic ametrine is produced in Russia, but the natural stone has no immediate variants other than the wider Quartz family and the citrine and amethyst themselves.

Esoteric Attributes – a quality or feature as characteristic of or possed by something.

Crystals, by their very nature, can receive and focus energy in different ways. Their molecular structure enables them to be used to amplify and convert energy. Hence, crystals have been used for centuries to aid healing and transmute energy both in the metaphysical and physical world.

Because each crystal family has different formational backgrounds, each also has different vibrational frequencies that can be harnessed and used for specific purposes. Each, therefore, has specific qualities that can help a person heal on many different levels of their being.

The following is a list of healing attributes associated with Ametrine crystals.

Mental: Ametrine enables us to experience mental creativity and take great strides in creative thinking. Citrine brings enthusiasm, and amethyst brings sensibility, enabling us to make positive, mental choices with balance.

Emotional: Ametrine is a stone that inspires joyfulness and calm. It encourages our inner being to focus on the positive when outside influences intervene. It is a stone that encourages compatibility and healthy relationships.

Physical: Ametrine creates balance within the body by easing body tension and generating harmony in body metabolism and the vegetative nervous system.

Alexandrite

Alexandrite – Gemzworld Crystals Encyclopedia

Alexandrite – This is our research and findings on this mineral

Origin – The place or situation from which something comes, the beginning of existence, the point from which it starts, the thing from which it is ultimately derived.

Alexandrite is an extremely rare gemstone initially discovered in the Sanarka River in Russia’s southern Ural Mountains.

The chemical composition exhibits Chrysoberyl’s variants consisting of a chrysoberyl cats eye and transparent Chrysoberyl, yet has chromium as an impurity along with iron and titanium, which accounts for its distinctive ability to change colour. Only this type of Chrysoberyl that can display these colour changes is Alexandrite.

Alexandrite is a strongly pleochroic | trichroic gem that changes colour about the light source. In daylight, they can be green (Russian) before switching to red in incandescent light.

All crystals belong to a different group according to the basis of the relationships of their axes. There are seven systems and 32 classes of symmetry. Alexandrite crystals belong to the orthorhombic system.

History – the past considered whole, the whole series of past events connected with someone or something, a continuous typically chronological record of importance.

Alexandrite has a recently modern history, documented as being discovered in Russia’s Ural Mountains as late as the 1830s.

The gem is said to have been named after the Russian Tzar Alexander. As it displays the red and green colours symbolic of Imperial Russia’s old stains, it became the national stone of Tzarist Russia.

Top-quality mined Alexandrite was extremely rare and, as the Russian mines depleted, was extremely scarce. A similar hue was found later in Brazilian mines in the 1980s yet were not as great as the quality of colour that the Russian gems possessed.

Jewellers highly seek the stone of a quality comparable to the Russian one due to its aesthetic value and rarity. Specialist dealers mainly supply it.

Specification – the act of describing or identifying something precisely, a detailed description of the design and materials used to make something.

Alexandrite has a good hardness of 8.5 on the MOH’s scale and is valued in relation to the more significant distinction of colour change from green to red. Some of the less valued Alexandrite’s change from green to a brownish colour instead.

The crystals feature cyclic twins called trillings which have a hexagonal appearance however are featured due to the formation of a triplet of twins at distinctive angles.

Natural Alexandrite gems are rarely found in jewellery due to their value and scarcity; however, synthetic lab-formed types are available on a more common basis.

Varieties – A number or range of things of the same general class that are different or distinct in character or quality.

Alexandrite is a type of Chrysoberyl and so falls in with other Crysoberyl types, including:

  • Yellowish-Green Chrysoberyl
  • Cats Eye or Cymomphane

However, the only other variety of Alexandrite is created synthetically or simulated to replicate Alexandrite through corundum traced with elements like vanadium.

Esoteric Attributes: A quality or feature as characteristic of or possed by something.

Crystals, by their very nature, can receive and focus energy in different ways. Their molecular structure enables them to be used to amplify and convert energy. Hence, crystals have been used for centuries to aid healing and transmute energy both in the metaphysical and physical world.

The following is a list of healing attributes associated with Alexandrite crystals.

Mental: Alexandrite is said to strengthen willpower and inspiration. It promotes imaginative powers igniting confidence in risk-taking and a more excellent perception of the inner voice.

Emotional: Alexandrite intensifies and heightens dreams and heightens the perception of emotion.

Physical: The Alexandrite gem is known to stimulate the liver and aid physical inflammations. It is also an aid for nerve disorders and to strengthen the senses.

Angelite

Angelite – Gemzworld Crystals Encyclopedia

Angelite – This is our research and findings on this magical mineral.

Origin – the place or situation from which something comes, the beginning of something’s existence, the point from which it starts, the thing from which it is ultimately derived.

Angelite is a Sulfates mineral of soft blue Anhydrite. Sulfides have a sulfur atom surrounded by four oxygen atoms that form a square. Aside from Gypsum and Baryte, which are the main Sulfide types, the rest are increasingly rare, including Anhydrite.

When Gypsum loses water, it turns into Anhydrite, usually found in salt deposits formed in blocks, of course, crystalline. Anhydrite is normally found as a colourless brown crystal. The pale blue version is rarer and is known as Angelite.

All crystals belong to a different group according to the basis of the relationships of their axes. There are 7 systems and 32 classes of symmetry. Angelite crystals belong to the Orthohombic system.

History – the past considered whole, the whole series of past events connected with someone or something, a continuous typically chronological record of importance.

The known history of Anhydrite is recent in times as the name was given by A.G. Werner in 1804 due to the absence of water of crystallization compared to its presence in Gypsum.

Angelite was first documented during the globally synchronised meditation event named the Harmonic Conversion in 1987.

Specification – the act of describing or identifying something precisely, a detailed description of the design and materials used to make something.

Angelite is only enhanced through cutting, tumbling and polishing. It is of a soft blue | white in colour, and the true versions are only believed to be found in Peru, encapsulating a deeper blue colour.

Varieties – a number or range of things of the same general class that are different or distinct in character or quality.

Angelite is formed from Sulfates, of which there are around 200 types, including Gypsum and Baryte.

A rare variety is Anhydrite, of which the pale blue version is known as Angelite.

Esoteric Attributes – a quality or feature as characteristic of or possed by something.

Amethyst

AMETHYST – Gemzworld Crystals Encyclopedia

Amethyst – Our research and findings on this beautiful healing mineral.

Origin – the place or situation from which something comes, the beginning of something’s existence, the point from which it starts, the thing from which it is ultimately derived.

Amethyst is a primary crystal formation created when the molten magma from volcanic explosions colls and forms into igneous rock.

This usually happens in cavities in volcanoes where the combination of chemistry and structural arrangements of mineral deposits, atoms and substances pass from gas or liquid into a solid-state or by means of going out of solution by precipitation or evaporation.

Amethyst is a silicate mineral of quartz and is the purple variety of the Quartz family.  This purple hue results from trace particles of iron forming within the silica acid in contrast to quartz’s transparent colour created when the iron is not present.

All crystals belong to a different group according to the basis of the relationships of their axes. There are seven systems and 32 classes of symmetry. Amethyst crystals belong to the Trigonal system.

History – the past considered whole, the whole series of past events connected with someone or something, a continuous typically chronological record of importance.

Amethyst has a long and detailed historical, traditional past that dates back to early civilisation and before. It was revered as one of the five cardinal gemstones to be of standing with the Emerald, Ruby, Diamond and Saphire for many Centuries until the discovery of large Amethyst mines in the 18th Century that moved its status from ‘precious’ to ‘semi-precious’.

There are mentions of the Amethyst in relation to the Bible and the Torah, and the stone was connected to the Catholic Church as it was widely associated with the blood of Christ.

The ancient myth of Bacchus from the 14th Century tells the story of how Bacchus, the God of Wine, in foul humour, decided to reap his frustrations on the first person he met. That person was the beautiful Amethyst, who was on her way to worship at the shrine of the Goddess Artemis. Bacchus set ferocious tigers on Amethyst, who cried out in fear for Artemis, who responded by turning her to white stone as protection. Taken by remorse, Bacchus took his best wines and poured them over her, thus turning the white stone into the purple hue that gives the Amethyst its distinctive colour.

Amethyst stone is highly desirable and used commonly worldwide. Natural Amethyst is only enhanced through the tumbling, cutting and polishing process, whilst lab-created Amethyst is widely used in the making of jewellery.

Specification – the act of describing or identifying something precisely, a detailed description of the design and materials used to make something.

As a natural stone, the Amethyst is enhanced through tumbling, cutting and polishing to reveal its attractive form.

Its mid purple colour is highly sought and varies in hue throughout the stone. Amethyst is common in jewellery and in semi-precious stone form and is highly popular worldwide.

Varieties – a number or range of things of the same general class that are different or distinct in character or quality.

Amethyst have a few variations, namely:

  • Chevron Amethyst

Amazonite

Amazonite – Gemzworld Crystals Encyclopedia

Amazonite – This is our research and findings on this mineral

Originthe place or situation from which something comes, the beginning of something’s existence, the point from which it starts, the thing from which it is ultimately derived.

A subdivision of Feldspar is Alkali Feldspar which is typically rich in potassium, and from this evolves the Microcline type, which is mainly white or pale yellow. In rare cases, the Microcline may appear a blue | green colour which is then termed as the semi-precious stone, Amazonite.

Amazonite is created in sedimentary and metamorphic rocks when potassium-rich hot silica acid changes from a liquid | gas formation into a solid compound. The blue | green colour is determined by traces of lead and water that remain in the silica acid.

All crystals belong to a different group according to the basis of the relationships of their axes. There are seven systems and 32 classes of symmetry. Amazonite crystals belong to the Triclinic system.

History – the past considered whole, the whole series of past events connected with someone or something, a continuous typically chronological record of importance.

The earliest reference to Amazonite is in the Egyptian Book of the Dead, which dates back to 3400 BCE, which recommends green feldspar (the earlier name for Amazonite) as an amulet in various parts of the text.

The Amazonite heart scarab amulet, which was used during the weighing of the heart ceremony when sending the soul on its journey to the underworld, was recovered as a ring from the tomb of King Tutankhamen.

Contrary to its name, Amazonite or green Feldspar has never been found near the Amazon River region. Instead, the name is said to have derived from tales told by the ancient Greeks where the female Amazon Warriors wore shields decorated with a green | blue stone. When the interest in Crystals grew in the 18th Century, the name was changed from Green Feldspar to Amazonite.

Amazonite is limited in occurrence and was initially mined from granite rocks in the Miass area of  Russia. It was later found in Colorado, Virginia, Madagascar and Brazil.

Specification – the act of describing or identifying something precisely, a detailed description of the design and materials used to make something.

Amazonite is easily fractured in its raw form, so care is taken to use it for cutting gemstones. The stones are polished to display the bright green colours and are also enhanced through tumbling. Apart from this, Amazonites enter the market in their natural form.

Varieties – a number or range of things of the same general class that are different or distinct in character or quality.

Amazonite is a variety of the Feldspar Mineral group, particularly the Alkali (Potassium) Group. Amazonite can sometimes be mistaken for jade, turquoise, aventurine, serpentine and chalcedony, among others, yet the most popular related gemstones are:

  • Sunstone
  • Moonstone
  • Orthoclase
  • Labradorite
  • Andesine

Jade

Jadeite slab6467c239f4e80c05c2e672511f4c484b

Origin

Jade or Nephrite derives its name from the Greek word “nephros” meaning kidney. Jade was long considered an “imperial gem”. Jade has long been an esteemed majestic stone in the Chinese empire similar to diamonds and gold in western countries. Widely considered an elite stone it was presented to the Chinese imperial court where skilled artisans turned them into masterpieces. Jade was widely used in the making of Chinese scholars’ objects like calligraphy brushes, mouthpieces and opium pipes. Nephrite jade can be found in China for utilitarian and ceremonial purposes, from indoor and decorative items to jade burial sites.  Indigenous tribes in Mexico, central and South America and New Zealand carved jade into deity masks and ritual artefacts.

Jade is comprised of metamorphic rocks called silicate minerals called Nephrite and Jadeite. These are then classified into grades in the ABC Treatment System. Nephrite is a calcium magnesium silicate while jadeite is a sodium aluminium silicate. Each has different compositions, hardness, densities and crystal structures.

Nephrite is usually a creamy white form, mid to deep olive green, brown and black. It has a smooth surface polish and the most common form of jade.  Jadeite comes in blue, lavender mauve, pink and emerald green. Different colours were imported to Burma in 1800. It is hard and lustrous, rarer than Nephrite and more valuable. Imperial Jade is the rarest and most treasured form.
